Product Description Sony proudly presents a TV that is like no other - it?s the latest addition to its BRAVIA range; the KDL-40V4000E. The KDL-40V4000E has a wide array of great features to ensure spectacular image quality. These include a new BRAVIA Engine 2 digital processor and Full HD technology, as well as an incredible dynamic contrast rate of 33,000:1, which displays breath-taking colours and intense black tones on its 40-inch panel. Buy this Sony with confidence (November 2008) November 22, 2008 I purchased the Sony KDL 40V4000 from Amazon a week or so ago. I spent ages, perhaps too long, in reading reviews of similar TVs and considering whether it was worth buying the Sony 40W which is 100 or so more expensive than the 40V. I need not have worried, buy this TV with absolute confidence, i do not have a digital aerial but in my opinion the picture quality is superb and the TV was set up and running with the minimum of fuss and 15mins. The sound quality is perfectly adequate from he TV but if rigged up to a sound system i guess it will be excellent. I am not a TV geek and there are some very detailed TV comparison accounts on the net but quite simply buy this Sony (currently about 660 from Amazon) and you will be happy. Amazon's performance in delivery etc of the TV was as is usual, excellent.
A MUST BUY TV!! November 1, 2008 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
I have owned this TV for a week now and I can't rate it high enough, I purchased it to replace my Sony 26" Bravia TV which is also a great TV but because of larger living premises a larger TV was needed. I always wanted to stick with Sony because having seen many LCD's I firmly believe Sony are superia in the the two main funtions, those being picture and sound. nevertheless I was still slightly apprahensive about going from a 26" TV to a 40" TV because of losing picture quality. My worries didn't last very long though, it took about 20 mins from getting it out of the box attaching the stand and letting the automatic tuning do its business, and boy am I impressed! the picture completely blew me away and this was before I made my slight adjustments to the picture settings, at first I thought the sound was not to great but a slightly higher bass and treble sorted that out, maybe sometime in the future I will get some surround sound but i,m in no hurry. Of coarse when you sit with your nose touching the screen you can see all the liitle blocks that make up the picture, I sit at around 10" away where all is fine, I would recommend being no closer than 8" though (on standard definition that is) I orderd my HD box when I purchases the TV which i'm slightly regretting now because i'm so impressed with the normal view, but i'm still looking forward to watching the likes of Prisonbreak and the footy in High definition. Connected to my 360 was also excellent, Gears of War looked fantastic, haven't watched a DVD yet but I hold no fears. All in all this is a must buy TV and for 600 quid you wont buy better!
Does what it says on the tin October 24, 2008 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
We had lived for nearly 20 years without a TV before deciding to jump in at the deep end. So apart from having had a good look at TV's in various shops, I am not able to compare this one with others, or to comment on its technical intricacies. We chose it for its looks and the SONY reputation and after having compared the specifications of many similarly priced TV's. We have had it a couple of weeks now, and have not been disappointed. It was very easy to set up, even for TV novices like us, and the zapper is very intuitive; we hardly ever need to refer to the instruction booklet, which is a bit flimsy anyway. Here are some other things I like about it. The sound quality is good, and I like the different sound options. The design is very plain and minimal; in spite of the size of the screen, it does not dominate the room when turned off. The picture is of course very good. What more can I say? I suppose the one downside is that I may be writing fewer book reviews on Amazon from now on. Oh, and the price has come down in the two weeks since I bought it. Zut alors!
Superb TV September 9, 2008 16 out of 16 found this review helpful
I have been researching LCD TVs for a long time and finally settled on this model which does everything I want, and being 1080P should be relatively future proof! Very easy to set up and intuitive in use. I also bought a Sony DAV DZ260 cinema system which is FAB and amazing value from Amazon. What a great TV it is!!!!great contrast ratio - colours and brightness are fantastic - good synch with the cinema system too.... One down-side though...old movies can look really poor as the TV exposes every blemish - especially old American stuff in old VT quality - both pixellated and fuzzy - not a fault of the set. My cinema system has 1080 upscaling and DVDs look brilliant so will be ok without a blu ray just yet! I would recommend getting HDTV though as I think it will be difficult to live with "less than" picture quality on a big screen. If you want a lovely high quality TV with all the Sony build quality at a good price - this doesn't get much better!
Good value for money September 9, 2008 11 out of 11 found this review helpful
I've just bought this TV in a package with a Blu-ray player (Sony 350) and I have to say I am very pleased.
I got a couple of free disks. First of all I gave XxX a whirl. Not the greatest film in the world but looked great, nice and crisp. Same with Pans Labarynth.
As for the TV itself...Screen gives nice big picture. Blacks of pretty good, not perfect but for the money you are doing well. Digital TV gives nice picture, Im going to get Freesat at some point as my freeview reception is hit and miss.
Downside is watching older programmes. I watched Dads Army and as another reviewer mentioned you get to see the warts and all of the poorer quality of the old recording. Going to watch a digitally remastered old Dr Who tonight to see how that fares. Watched Revenge of the Sith last night on normal DVD and the picture was fantastic so glad I wont have to rebuy all my DVDs again.
So in concluding, well worth considering as you seem to get a nice bit of telly for the money. My only other advice is haggle! I went to Sony Centre and quoted Amazon prices and I got the Blu-ray player and 5 year gaurantee.
