1 out of 5 stars Avoid this trash   November 19, 2008
It's rubbish.

Over the year we've had it it has inexplicably got worse. It keeps missing programmed recordings (that's the worst thing), and on the rare occasions when it has successfully recorded something, the recordings have sometimes disappeared or become corrupted. Add to that the problem with freezing when fast forwarding, and you get the picture. We should have taken it back soon after we bought it, but it didn't seem too bad at first. We got it from Tesco. I hope they're ashamed of selling such junk.

1 out of 5 stars Beware, this item is total trash!   November 9, 2008
This is one of the worst bits of junk I've ever owned. what a waste of money! I got it on special offer - now I understand why. Within weeks it was freezing constantly and you'd have to turn off the box and put it back on before it worked, (this takes a couple of minutes each time). You couldn't risk pausing or rewinding tv or it would crash. You couldn't risk deleting more than a couple of programmes each time, or it would crash. You couldn't really risk recording anything you really wanted to watch because, more often than not, it would crash half way through and the recording would then automatically delete. Having tried desperately to find a decent set top box, I realise now you probably have to fork out a good deal of money to be safe in the knowledge it will work - since many of the boxes appear to suffer from similar faults. The faults on this one just got increasingly worse though and it is so incredibly frustrating. Don't buy it!

1 out of 5 stars The worst of the worst   November 3, 2008
Thomson Top Up TV - 160GB Freeview Digital TV Recorder - With Free Top Up TV Trial
Top up TV not wanted on my machine but TUTV keep sending annoying promtional adds overnight to your hard drive, they say they are unable to stop them as advertisers have paid for them to be transmitted. My machine would occasionally picture freeze or jump back to start of recording when rewind is selected. BBC1 went to continuous picture freeze and if library of recordings was selected then the library page would freeze and remote inoperable. Unplugging from mains and reboot would not rectify latter problem. Asda were brilliant, they refunded money without any quibble and now I have purchased a twin tuner 160gb
Sagem box from them (it is outstanding !)

1 out of 5 stars rubbish do not buy, especially from Amazon   October 27, 2008

I bought this 8 months ago, the unit locks up every time it is turned on now so is totally useless. I contacted Amazon about a repair/replacement, they said for items under 199 they will not replace the item after 6 months, even if it has 1 year warranty. they offer a refund of 20% of the purchase price if you return the item or 10% if you keep it. repair is not viable as it will cost more than a replacement.

1 out of 5 stars The Skip Will Love It!!!!!   October 26, 2008

I bought one as I got rid of my VCR when I got a TV with built in Freeview last Christmas. I wished I'd never bothered.

Half the programmes I want to record become corrupt soon as soon as they are recorded. If not then it misses the recording all together. Most of the time the begining or end of the programme gets cut off if they are recorded.

It's ment to give you a 14 day listing. Well I had that for a couple of months but now I don't even get a 7 day listing.

It is also a very, very noisy machine. I have to turn it off by the plug most nights as it keeps me awake.
