Amazon.co.uk Review
To call this cut of Blade Runner `long awaited' would be a heavy, heavy understatement. It's taken 25 years since the first release of one of the science-fiction genre's flagship films to get this far, and understandably, Blade Runner: The Final Cut has proved to be one of the most eagerly awaited DVD releases of all time.

And it's been well worth the wait. Director Ridley Scott's decision to head back to the edit suite and cut together one last version of his flat-out classic film has been heavily rewarded, with a genuinely definitive version of an iconic, visually stunning and downright intelligent piece of cinema. Make no mistake: this is by distance the best version of Blade Runner. And it's never looked better, either.

The core of Blade Runner, of course, remains the same, with Harrison Ford's Deckard (the Blade Runner of the title) on the trail of four `replicants', cloned humans that are now illegal. And he does so across an amazing cityscape that's proven to be well ahead of its time, with astounding visuals that defied the supposed limits of special effects back in 1982.

Backed up with a staggering extra features package that varies depending on which version of this Blade Runner release you opt for (two-, four- and five-disc versions are available), the highlight nonetheless remains the stunning film itself. Remastered and restored, it remains a testament to a number of creative people whose thinking was simply a country mile in advance of that of their contemporaries. An unmissable purchase. --Jon Foster

3 out of 5 stars Bladerunner Blues   November 25, 2008
The American 5 disc version is region-free, in fact all U.S Warner titles are region-free so don't bother with the U.K release and treat yourself to the 5 disc version instead. As previous reviewers have said the picture and sound quality is outstanding. This is a fabulous package, and as usual Ridley Scott has taken the same level of care and attention in putting this package together as he has with all his DVD releases. The three stars are for the U.K release - it's a pity Warners U.K felt the need to rush this one out instead of giving us the five disc version instead.

5 out of 5 stars Classic movie just got better   October 24, 2008

I think this Blu Ray Final Cut edition was a superb addition to my collection. This is certainly different enough to buy again if you have any of the other versions on DVD. The HD really added to the feel of the city, and as I had not watched it for a few years now, the new cut made it feel almost like a different movie. If you have not seen it before, highly recommended, and if you haven't seen it in years worth a revisit!

5 out of 5 stars Stunningly good looks!!   September 2, 2008
To say that this film looks stunning on Blu-Ray would be an understatement!!
Right from the off you are presented with a city-scape so detailed you feel as though you could fly right in and this is 25 years old! I never saw this in the cinema when it came out but watching it in HiDef would make me go to see it if it was re-released.
This final-cut version doesn't have the Deckard voice over, but it's hard to not forget it when you watch the film, but the new editing and deletion/ isertion of some scenes makes this the best version by far.
Also if you haven't read "Do Androids Dream Of Electric Sheep" you should have, it gives the story a new perspective.

5 out of 5 stars Genius   August 24, 2008
Sheer brilliance, unmatched since it was made and now in unrivalled picture quality. The first essential Blu-Ray.

5 out of 5 stars How can such an old film look so good?   May 23, 2008

im going to keep this short, im assuming youve already watched this film, i mean who hasnt? if youve got a HD TV, HD or blue Ray player, do yourself a favour! you will be amaaazed at how crystal clear the picture is, youd think this film was made yesterday, ive compared the two versions, the regular DVD and the HD, no comparison, the HD is wow wow!
if you know anybody who loves this film and there not quite convinced about upgrading to HD, this is a good place to start
