Amazon.co.uk Review The Dark Knight arrives with tremendous hype (best superhero movie ever? posthumous Oscar for Heath Ledger?), and incredibly, it lives up to all of it. But calling it the best superhero movie ever seems like faint praise, since part of what makes the movie great--in addition to pitch-perfect casting, outstanding writing, and a compelling vision--is that it bypasses the normal fantasy element of the superhero genre and makes it all terrifyingly real. Harvey Dent (Aaron Eckhart) is Gotham City's new district attorney, charged with cleaning up the crime rings that have paralysed the city. He enters an uneasy alliance with the young police lieutenant, Jim Gordon (Gary Oldman), and Batman (Christian Bale), the caped vigilante who seems to trust only Gordon--and whom only Gordon seems to trust. They make progress until a psychotic and deadly new player enters the game: the Joker (Heath Ledger), who offers the crime bosses a solution--kill the Batman. Further complicating matters is that Dent is now dating Rachel Dawes (Maggie Gyllenhaal, after Katie Holmes turned down the chance to reprise her role), the longtime love of Batman's alter ego, Bruce Wayne. In his last completed role before his tragic death, Ledger is fantastic as the Joker, a volcanic, truly frightening force of evil. And he sets the tone of the movie: the world is a dark, dangerous place where there are no easy choices. Eckhart and Oldman also shine, but as good as Bale is, his character turns out rather bland in comparison (not uncommon for heroes facing more colorful villains). Director/co-writer Christopher Nolan (Memento) follows his critically acclaimed Batman Begins with an even better sequel that sets itself apart from notable superhero movies like Spider-Man 2 and Iron Man because of its sheer emotional impact and striking sense of realism--there are no suspension-of-disbelief superpowers here. At 152 minutes, it's a shade too long, and it's much too intense for kids. But for most movie fans--and not just superhero fans--The Dark Knight is a film for the ages. --David Horiuch

Great Film, but WTF Amazon! December 20, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
Given a five as the movie deserves it, but thought I had to write this to mention that because Amazon package this DVD poorly the box it comes in will get creased making it look second hand. Mine had huge creases in the sides of the cardboard.
That and the fact this limited edition is cheap and tacky. The plastic Bat Mask just feels so cheaply made. Save your money, don't buy this tatty thing get the normal DVD or Blu-ray release.
One of the best films I've seen, but sloppy packaging December 16, 2008 Love this film, h8 amazon packaging. Received it and the box was damaged because it was sent in a jiffy bag. Really disappointed considering how much amazon charge for delivery. As for the batmask itself, its really cool. The film is gr8, but unless amazon change the packaging i'd go for the standard dvd
What did I pay my P&P for? December 16, 2008 This review is solely based on Amazon's services, as I could wax-lyrical about this film all day.
I was very disappointed when this product arrived to find the condition less than perfect. I had paid P&P to receive this in good condition and on the date of release, what I got looked akin to last Monday's West Ham -v- Tottenham matchday ball at full time.
Where, oh where was the usual Amazon boxed/shrink-wrapped armour plating? So I endeavoured to find out by requesting a replacement. The kind and very helpful young lady took all of the details and assured me that I would not have to pay for 1. the replacement and 2. the return postage on the defective product. She also said she'd ensure that the replacement was adequately packaged...
So, yesterday I arrived home to a package, something akin to Sunday's West Ham -v- Chelsea matchday ball (can you see the pattern forming here???). Yes, once more Amazon's Jersey DVD branch, Indigostarfish, have demonstrated the intelligence that their name suggests, by providing inadequate protection for this product.
Again, I contacted Amazon, who made the relevant cooing noises of sympathy, but ultimately I was told the don't replace replacements, and that they could only offer me a refund, which I have duly accepted. But... to cap it off, it would appear that I have to pay out of my own pocket for the luxury of sending these poorly packaged, sub-standard products back to Jersey...
Buyer beware!!!
Poor Packaging for a Ltd Edition Exclusive to Amazon.co.uk December 15, 2008 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I was very disappointed with this Ltd Edition Exclusive to Amazon DVD. I ordered this for a Christmas gift and opted for this version, for 18 you get a very flimsy outer box that did not come in protected heavy duty card packaging, but a basic light padded bag, resulting in a badly creased product. I wish I'd just bought the basic DVD now rather than pay more money for an DVD with an inferior box.
Damaged box December 12, 2008 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
Mine arrived in a jiffy bag too and the box was damaged. Disappointed as this is a present for my son - especially as it was the limited edition version. Usually Amazon is fantastic.
